[April 09, 2015]  April 8 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Wednesday's National Basketball Association games.

Grizzlies 110, Pelicans 74

Zach Randolph posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies rolled to a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Randolph, like center Marc Gasol, had a game-high six assists. Gasol also scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots.

The loss dropped New Orleans (42-36) back into a tie with Oklahoma City for the eighth and last playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Thunder were idle on Wednesday and both teams have four games left.

The Grizzlies (53-25) pulled into a tie with Houston for the second spot in the West.

Spurs 110, Rockets 98

Tony Parker scored 27 points as the San Antonio Spurs beat Houston to win their ninth straight game.
 


The Spurs (53-26) moved into a tie for fifth place with the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference and within a half-game of Houston (53-25) for the lead in the Southwest Division.

James Harden finished with 22 points to lead the Rockets.

Magic 105, Bulls 103

Victor Oladipo hit a layup with 1.5 seconds remaining to give the Orlando Magic a victory over the Chicago Bulls, spoiling the much anticipated return of All Star Derrick Rose.

Rose, who missed 20 games after right knee surgery, had little impact for the Bulls (46-32) and did not play in the fourth period. He finished with nine points in 19 minutes.

Oladipo led everyone with 23 points as the Magic (25-43) won their third consecutive game, tying their longest winning streak this season.

Trail Blazers 116, Timberwolves 91

LaMarcus Aldridge collected 24 points and 13 rebounds despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter in the Portland Trail Blazers' rout of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Robin Lopez scored 18 points with six rebounds, and guard Damian Lillard had 17 points and handed out six assists for the Trail Blazers (51-27), who won for the seventh time in nine games and sit fourth in the West.

Mavericks 107, Suns 104

Mavs shooting guard Monta Ellis scored a team-high 20 points, including a driving layup in a 6-0 run that gave Dallas the lead for good down the stretch as Dallas eliminated Phoenix from playoff contention.

Dirk Nowitzki added 19 points and drilled a three-pointer with 23 seconds left that helped nailed down the win for the Mavs (47-31), who are seventh in the West.

Wizards 119, 76ers 90

Bradley Beal scored 21 points and the hot-shooting Washington Wizards ripped the Philadelphia 76ers to win their fourth straight game.

Ramon Sessions added a season-high 19 points and Marcin Gortat had 18 for the Wizards, who shot a franchise-record 65.3 percent from the field despite resting guard John Wall and forward Nene.

Washington (45-33) remained fifth in the East.

Cavaliers 104, Bucks 99

LeBron James knocked down a three-pointer with 14.1 seconds left that snuffed out a late Milwaukee rally and the Cleveland Cavaliers clinched the Central Division title with a victory over the Bucks.

James finished with 21 points despite scoring just two in the second and third quarters.

Milwaukee (38-40) remain in sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Celtics 113, Pistons 103

Isaiah Thomas poured in a season-high 34 points off the bench and the Boston Celtics eliminated the Detroit Pistons from playoff contention.

Thomas, a point guard whose previous season high was 28 against Charlotte on Feb. 27, also had six assists.

Jae Crowder contributed 17 points and six rebounds for Boston (36-42), who had a half-game lead for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference entering the game.

Raptors 92, Hornets 74

DeMar DeRozan scored 18 points as the Toronto Raptors routed the Charlotte Hornets.

Greivis Vasquez and Louis Williams poured in 16 points each, while Tyler Hansbrough had 12 points and James Johnson added 11 points for Toronto (46-32), who remain third in the Eastern Conference.

Hawks 114, Nets 111

Al Horford scored 24 points and Mike Scott added 20 points, leading the Atlanta Hawks to a victory over Brooklyn, damaging the Nets' Eastern Conference playoff hopes in the process.

The victory gave the Hawks a franchise-record 59 wins with 19 losses. The loss dropped the Nets to 36-42 overall and into a tie with Boston for the seventh spot in the conference playoff race.

Pacers 102, Knicks 86

George Hill scored a game-high 20 points to spearhead the Indiana Pacers' rout of the New York Knicks.

Indiana guard Paul George had 10 in his second game of the season following rehabilitation from a gruesome broken leg sustained during a Team USA scrimmage last summer.

The Pacers (35-43) remain one game back in the race for the final two Eastern Conference playoff spots.

Nuggets 119, Lakers 101

Kenneth Faried had a season-high 29 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets used a big second half to pull away from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Danilo Gallinari scored 27 points and guard Ty Lawson had 16 in his return from a one-game absence to help the Nuggets clinch the season series with the Lakers.

Jazz 103, Kings 91

Rodney Hood scored 20 points and collected a career-high eight rebounds while Derrick Favors added 18 points and 11 rebounds to help the Utah Jazz rally in the second half for a victory over the Sacramento Kings.



Rudy Gobert and guard Dante Exum each scored 12 points and Gobert added 10 rebounds to help the Jazz (36-42) win the season series against the Kings. (Editing by Peter Rutherford; )
