[April 10, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Outdoor Trail is working toward safe trails for non-motorized activities and improved cycling opportunities in Logan County. As part of their efforts, they have partnered with Healthy Communities Partnership to bring a bike rodeo to downtown Lincoln on Saturday, April 25 from 10am to 12pm. The event will take place on the McLean Street side of the square and the Logan County Farm Bureau parking lot.

A bike rodeo is a bicycle skills event that provides an opportunity for bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.

Emily Hauter, outreach coordinator for the trail group, is excited to bring the event to Logan County children. “Our goal is to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn, practice, and demonstrate their bicycle handling skills in a fun, noncompetitive atmosphere,” said Hauter.

The bike rodeo will feature educational stations regarding bike safety and an obstacle course. Participants should bring their bike and helmet. A bike safety station will be facilitated by Cub Scout Pack 101. Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

The Logan County Outdoor Trail group is exploring and using criteria of the Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC℠) program which provides a roadmap to improve conditions for bicycling and make Logan County a better, bikeable community.

“While our trail efforts focus on all non-motorized activities, activities like the bike rodeo help promote both safety and active transportation in Logan County,” said Hauter.
