Clinton High School Band to perform with Millikin Wind Ensemble April 19

[April 13, 2015]  DECATUR - Millikin University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, along with the Clinton High School Band, will present a concert of traditional and contemporary music on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at 4 p.m. in Kirkland Fine Arts Center.

The program will also feature Millikin student winners of the Wind Ensemble Solo Competition. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Clinton High School Band, under the direction of Nathan Wheeler, will open the concert with several musical selections, including Goldman's "The Chimes of Liberty," followed by Larry Daehn's "As Summer Was Just Beginning," Grainger's "Spoon River," and ending with Saucedo's "Confluence."

Following a brief intermission, the Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform Shostakovitch's "Festive Overture," followed by Aaron Copland's "Quiet City," featuring Millikin soloists Emily Altic, a sophomore music performance instrumental major from Hanna City, Ill., on English horn, and Phillip Tsigolaroff, a senior commercial music major from Decatur, Ill., on trumpet. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will also perform Heiden's "Diversion," featuring soloist Blake Martin, a senior commercial music major from Springfield, Ill., on alto saxophone. The concert will conclude with a performance of Ticheli's "Symphony No. 2."

The Millikin Symphonic Wind Ensemble is the University's premiere large instrumental ensemble, and includes students who major in music as well as many other academic disciplines at Millikin University. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Gary Shaw, Millikin professor of music and director of bands.
