[April 17, 2015]  Baseball season opens on April 5 with a classic showdown between the Cubs and Cardinals. The Atlanta Public Library will celebrate baseball all month, so come out and have some springtime fun!

Dinner at the Palms Grill on April 11 features a discussion with celebrated author Gary W. Moore whose book Playing with the Enemy has become a popular favorite. The book tells the story of Moore’s father, an Illinois farm boy who drew the attention of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

When Gene’s baseball career was interrupted by Pearl Harbor, he enlisted to play baseball on the U.S. Navy team. When he and his teammates were sent on a top secret mission, his life—and his baseball career—were changed forever.

Join the conversation to find out what happened! Reservations are required and can be made by calling 217-648-5077. Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m., with the program to follow. Sponsored by A-Team.

On April 18 beginning at 11:00 a.m. the Library and the City of Atlanta will host a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Contest for boys and girls ages 7-14. This event is free and winners move onto the sectional competition in May. Sign up by bringing a valid birth certificate to the Library—or sign up on the day of the event. The rain date is April 25.

On April 23, kids at Reading & Art Night will design and paint their own baseball caps. The program is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Library. Sponsored by Atlanta Lodge No. 165 A. F. & A. M. All ages welcome.
