[April 24, 2015]  SPRINGFIELD - Now that Prom and Graduation are upon us, Illinois State Police District 09 Troopers will be conducting high visibility patrols with aggressive enforcement of the Fatal Four violations: DUI, Speeding, Seat Belt, and Distracted Driving.

On prom and graduation nights, six out of 10 high school students feel pressure to drink or use drugs. More than eight in 10 teens say that students who drink or use drugs at prom will likely get behind the wheel and drive. Car crashes kill more teens during the weekends of prom and graduation season than any other time of year.

Our goal is in the word, (PROM) “Please Return On Monday”. We want to modify teen driving behaviors which include distractions, carelessness, fatigue, and inexperience. These behaviors, when combined with drugs and/or alcohol can be lethal. In addition to the directed patrols, Seat Belt Enforcement Zones will also be conducted. The goal of these concentrated efforts is voluntary compliance. The Illinois State Police ask everyone to please help ensure memories of Prom and Graduation are positive ones, buckle up and do not use alcohol or drugs.
