[April 25, 2015]  LINCOLN - On Sunday, May 3, friends, family and the community on the whole are invited to spend the afternoon with Mae Snyder-Blaum as she prepares to celebrate her 95th birthday. An open house will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Friendship Manor in Mae’s honor.

May was born May 10, 1920. Her parents were Newton and Beulah Snyder. She grew up with a sister, Doris who is now deceased.

Mae attended nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital on 7th Street in Lincoln. She graduated in May of 1943, but stayed on at the hospital as the Supervisor Nurse of the first floor.

Mae has many memories of the Sisters who operated the hospital and the co-workers who became dear friends.

She met her husband Arthur Blaum at Deaconess when he was a patient recovering from surgery for appendicitis. Arthur was enlisted in the U.S. Air force and served his country during World War II. When the war was over, he proposed to Mae and they were married on January 18, 1948.

Mae has collected hundreds of wonderful memories in her 95 years, and she would enjoy visiting with everyone and sharing memories of the days at Deaconess and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital as well as her life on the farm.

Some special guests have already promised to attend and share their stories of time spent with Mae.

It is hoped that everyone who knows Mae will stop in on Sunday and enjoy a time of cake and punch and great story telling.

Mae has also requested only your presence. No gifts please.
