[April 25, 2015]  April 24 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's Major League baseball games:

Yankees 6, Mets 1

Michael Pineda pitched effectively into the eighth inning and first baseman Mark Teixeira homered twice, leading the New York Yankees to a victory over the New York Mets, who had their record-tying 11-game winning streak snapped.

Jacoby Ellsbury hit a solo home run and second baseman Stephen Drew lifted a sacrifice fly for the Yankees (10-7), who won a home game against the Mets (13-4) for the first time since June 10, 2012.

Rays 12, Blue Jays 3

James Loney hit a two-run homer and a double in his return from the 15-day disabled list to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a win against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Catcher Rene Rivera and designated hitter Tim Beckham also hit two-run homers as the Rays (9-8) won their third consecutive game.

Indians 13, Tigers 1

Brandon Moss drove in seven runs -- five with a pair of home runs plus two with a double -- and Danny Salazar struck out a career-best 11 batters in seven innings to help the Cleveland Indians overpower Detroit and hand the skidding Tigers their fourth straight loss.

Cleveland's (6-9) Salazar (2-0) allowed six hits and walked three in his second start since being recalled from the minors. Right-handers Scott Atchison and Anthony Swarzak worked the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Detroit fell to 11-6.

Cardinals 3, Brewers 0

Jayson Heyward and Jhonny Peralta hit their second home runs of the season and Carlos Martinez pitched seven shutout innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers.

Peralta also had two singles for a 3-for-4 night for the Cardinals (11-4).

Red Sox 7, Orioles 5

Brock Holt hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the Boston Red Sox a victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

First baseman Chris Davis homered for the Orioles (7-10) in the eighth as they lost their fifth straight.

Boston improved to 10-7.

Phillies 1, Braves 0

First baseman Freddie Freeman's ninth-inning error allowed the game's only run to score, as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves.

Ben Revere bounced a ball to Freeman with a runner on a third base and he failed to field it cleanly giving Philadelphia (6-11) the win over Atlanta (8-8).

Freddy Galvis went 3-for-4 and scored the winning run.

Marlins 3, Nationals 2

Third baseman Martin Prado hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth inning to lead the Miami Marlins past the Washington Nationals.

It was the third straight win for the Marlins (6-11) and the third straight loss for NL East-rival Washington (7-10).

Dodgers 3, Padres 0

Zack Greinke limited the Padres to four hits while striking out seven over seven innings in snapping the Dodgers' three-game losing streak.

Carl Crawford homered for the Dodgers (10-6).

San Diego (10-8) have not scored in 14 straight innings.

Angels 3, Rangers 2

David Freese's two-run home run in the seventh inning lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a win over the Texas Rangers.

Freese's homer made a winner of Angels (8-9) starting pitcher Garrett Richards, who gave up two runs and three hits in seven innings, but stood to lose the game if not for Freese's big hit.

Rockies 6, Giants 4

Pinch-hitter Rafael Ynoa hit a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth inning where Colorado scored three times to snap San Francisco's three-game winning streak.

DJ LeMahieu first tied the game 4-4 with an RBI double of his own and finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Rockies (10-7).

San Francisco fell to 7-11.

Astros 5, Athletics 4 (11 innings)

Left fielder Robbie Grossman hit a tie-breaking, two-run single in the top of the 11th inning, and the Houston Astros held on for a victory against the Oakland Athletics.

Neither team scored until extra innings. Both teams scored twice in the 10th and Houston (9-7) scored three times in the 11th where Oakland (8-10) managed two runs.

Mariners 2, Twins 0

Felix Hernandez turned in another dominant performance as the Seattle Mariners continued their journey back toward relevance with a win over the Minnesota Twins.

Hernandez (2-0) struck out nine and threw his first complete game, and his first shutout since 2012 to give the Mariners (7-9) their fourth win in six games.

Pirates 4, Diamondbacks 1

Pittsburgh right-hander Gerrit Cole gave up one run in 7 2/3 innings and third baseman Josh Harrison had two hits and two RBIs in the Pirates' victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cole (3-0) has won his last seven decisions since Sept. 7, 2014, the most victories in the Major Leagues during that stretch.

Pittsburgh improved to 9-8 while the D-Backs fell to 8-8.

Cubs 7, Reds 3 (11 innings)

Chicago scored four runs in the 11th inning to defeat Cincinnati.

Jonathan Herrera had the go-ahead RBI single in the 11th to spark the onslaught. Chicago (9-7) starter Jon Lester (0-2) struck out 10 in six innings but remains win-less as the team's big acquisition in the off-season.

White Sox 2, Royals 2 (suspended)

A steady rain made conditions at U.S. Cellular Field unplayable, stopping the game between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals in the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2.

Under Major League Baseball rules, play will resume 2:10 PM EST Saturday before the originally scheduled game, which will begin shortly after the conclusion of Friday night's game. (Editing by Jahmal Corner)
