[April 30, 2015]   LINCOLN - The Zonta Club of Lincoln recently celebrated International Women’s Day by honoring three local women with the presentation of the Zonta Yellow Rose. International Women’s Day is held annually to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.

Barb Kline and Kathleen Vipond, both with Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, were chosen for this year’s yellow rose honor for their many years of dedication and service to the community. Kline and Vipond have both worked for Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. Kline serves as Director of Quality and Safety. In her role, Kline oversees quality initiatives at ALMH to ensure a safe environment and high quality care for all patients and their families. Vipond is presently the Director of Professional Services. In her role, Vipond oversees the general operations of the hospital including oversight of the medical staff, clinical roles and other hospital departments.

“Both Barb and Kathleen have been role models for younger women at the hospital by their fair treatment of others, integrity and work ethics” says Jeanette Savery, a Zonta Club member who has worked with Barb and Kathleen for over thirty years. “Both are respected by hospital staff and the community for the services they perform to make Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital a place where Logan County residents receive quality health care.”

A third yellow rose was presented to Helen Rainforth of Abe’s Carmelcorn Shoppe in Lincoln in recognition of her dedication, achievement, and professionalism in her career.

Helen has owned and managed Abe’s for 33 years. Under her leadership, the business grew quickly and expanded into Normal in 1985 and Peoria in 1992. Her son Lance reports “While the entire family works daily for the company, it is Helen Rainforth, wife, mother, and grandmother that keeps Abe’s, well, Abe’s”!

Helen’s drive, determination, and constant pursuit of excellence have made Abe’s into the beloved Lincoln institution that it is today.

The Zonta Club of Lincoln is proud to recognize these three women that have made our community a better place to live.
