[August 10, 2015]  Aug 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Miami Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez is probably headed for the disabled list, but the diagnosis Sunday was better than some feared.

Fernandez, who was removed from Friday's game complaining of pain in his arm, has a right biceps strain, according to the Miami Herald. He is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks, and there is no timetable for his return.

The Marlins may decide to shut down the 23-year-old Fernandez for the remainder of the season. However, the good news is that there was no damage to his surgically repaired elbow or to his shoulder.

Fernandez returned last month after having Tommy John elbow surgery in 2014. He is 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA in seven starts this season.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz said he will return to the team next season after reaching a vesting clause in his contract.

Ortiz met the requirement with his 425th plate appearance this season on his first at-bat against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, guaranteeing a base salary of $11 million in 2016.

Ortiz is hitting .247 with 65 RBIs this season.

Infielder Cliff Pennington was added to the Toronto Blue Jays' roster, becoming the sixth player to join the team in a trade since July 27.
