[August 11, 2015]  Aug 10 (Reuters) - Highlights of Monday's Major League Baseball games.

Mets 4, Rockies 2

Daniel Murphy's two-run, two-out single in the seventh inning broke a tie and capped a three-run rally by the New York Mets, who went on to beat Colorado 4-2 at Citi Field.

The Mets (60-52) ensured they would remain at least 1 1/2 games ahead of the Washington Nationals in the National League East. The Nationals visit the LA Dodgers later on Monday.

The Rockies (47-63) have lost eight of their last 12 games.

White Sox 8, Angels 2

Chris Sale got back to dominating hitters, and Avisail Garcia clubbed two home runs, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 8-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels at U.S. Cellular Field.

Sale, who was roughed up in his previous two starts, went 7 1/3 innings and struck out seven on 104 pitches (72 strikes). He allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and hit Angels right fielder Kole Calhoun with a pitch before leaving in the eighth.

Garcia, who drove in four runs, has four home runs in his past six games, all hit at home. Prior to the homer binge, Garcia hit just two home runs in his previous 48 games, which included a 46-game homerless drought from June 8 and Aug. 4.

Royals 4, Tigers 0

Johnny Cueto pitched a shutout and Lorenzo Cain doubled home two runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 4-0.

Cueto threw 116 pitches and stymied the Tigers on four hits, three of them singles. It was his second shutout this season.

His first was on July 7 while with the Reds at Washington.

Cueto struck out eight and walked none to pick up his first Royals victory in his third start.

Diamondbacks 13, Phillies 3

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Welington Castillo homered and tied a career high with four RBIs, and right fielder Yasmany Tomas and center fielder A.J. Pollock also homered in the Diamondbacks' 13-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field.

Castillo hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and added a bases-loaded triple in a six-run sixth to help right-hander Rubby De La Rosa (10-5) become the National League's 12th 10-game winner.

[to top of second column]

Orioles 3, Mariners 2

Adam Jones and Chris Davis each hit a home run, and Chen Wei-Yin pitched 7 1/3 solid innings, leading the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Chen (6-6) turned in a stellar outing at Safeco Field for the second year in a row, following up last year's eight innings of shutout ball with another dominant performance.

He allowed one run on three hits before closer Zach Britton came on to earn his 28th save of the season by pitching the final 1 2/3 innings.

Britton allowed an unearned run with two outs in the ninth, when what appeared to be the game-ending strikeout resulted in a run because the ball got away from catcher Caleb Joseph.

Nationals 8, Dodgers 3

Washington sortstop Ian Desmond homered twice and Gio Gonzalez tossed eight shutout innings, sparking the Nationals to an 8-3 romp over the Los Angeles Dodgers before 45,722 at Dodger Stadium.

Gonzalez scattered seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk on 117 pitches (76 strikes) as the Nationals (58-53) handed the Dodgers (62-50) their first four-game losing streak of the season.

The win kept Washington 1 1/2 games back of the National League East-leading New York Mets, while the Dodgers' lead in the NL West dwindled to 2 1/2 games over the idle San Francisco Giants.

Padres 2, Reds 1

Justin Upton hit a two-run homer while right-handed starter Ian Kennedy and four relievers held Cincinnati to four hits as the Padres defeated the Reds 2-1 at Petco Park to end a six-game losing streak.

Kennedy (7-10) allowed one run on two hits over five innings, but he also issued a season-high six walks and twice had to pitch out of bases-loaded jams.

Cincinnati's lone run was a homer by right fielder Jay Bruce leading off the second.
