Fatal crash on I-55 at 116 Mile Marker

[August 15, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 9:

WHAT: Fatal Traffic Crash with Road Closure

WHERE: I-55 N/B MP 116, Logan County

WHEN: Friday 08/14/15 at 7:50 P.M.

VEHICLES:
Unit 1: 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Unit 2: 1998 Volvo Truck Tractor

DRIVERS:
Unit 1: Claude B. Finn, 39, Springfield, IL
Unit 2: William R. Jepsen, 49, Lexington, Il.

PRELIMINARY:
According to the preliminary traffic crash investigation the red Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling southbound on I-55 near milepost 116 while the white 1998 Volvo truck tractor semi trailer was traveling northbound on I-55 near milepost 116. For unknown reasons the Chevrolet crossed the grass median and struck the truck tractor semi trailer head on in the far right northbound lane of travel. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash while the driver of the truck tractor semi trailer refused medical treatment. I-55 northbound traffic is being re-routed to Old Rt. 66 at the Elkhart exit while the investigation continues.
