[August 18, 2015]  Aug 17 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights from Major League Baseball games on Monday:

Orioles 4, Athletics 2

Steve Clevenger hit a three-run homer while Chris Tillman won his seventh straight decision as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Oakland Athletics.

Clevenger's three-run homer, which came off A's starter Sonny Gray (12-5), gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning.

That proved enough for Tillman (9-7) to win.

The right-hander gave up two runs, homers by third baseman Danny Valencia and left fielder Mark Canha, and three hits in seven innings.

- -

Indians 8, Red Sox 2

Danny Salazar continued his marvellous run of pitching while right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall drove in three runs to lead the Indians to an 8-2 rout of the Boston Red Sox.

Salazar (11-6) allowed a run on four hits in seven innings, yielding only a home run to first baseman Travis Shaw that gave Boston a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

- -

Diamondbacks 4, Pirates 1

Jake Lamb homered to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Lamb connected for his fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning, a solo shot off Gerrit Cole (14-7) that put the Diamondbacks ahead 4-0.

- -

Cardinals 2, Giants 1

First baseman Mark Reynolds broke a tie in the bottom of the eighth inning from a fielder's choice as St. Louis eked out a 2-1 verdict over the San Francisco Giants.

Kevin Siegrist (4-0) pitched a clean eighth to earn the win for the Cardinals (76-42), while closer Trevor Rosenthal picked up his 37th save in 39 opportunities.

St. Louis moved six games ahead of Pittsburgh, a 4-1 loser to Arizona, in the National League Central.

- -

Marlins 6, Brewers 2

Derek Dietrich hit his eighth home run of the season while Justin Nicolino worked into the seventh inning as the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers.

Nicolino (8-7) walked two, struck out three and held Milwaukee to two runs and two hits in 6-2/3 innings to win for the third time in four starts.

- -

Rangers 4, Mariners 3

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre did plenty of damage with his bat, but his eye proved the game winner in Texas' 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

[to top of second column]

Beltre went 3-for-4 with three RBIs but did not swing the bat in drawing a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to give Texas (60-57) their fifth consecutive win.

- -

Rays 9, Astros 2

Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez benefited from an early offensive surge courtesy of second baseman Tim Beckham's three-run homer as the Tampa Bay Rays clubbed the Houston Astros 9-2.

Ramirez (10-4) became the third Tampa Bay pitcher to record 10 wins in a season after he was acquired via trade, joining Mark Hendrickson (2004) and Matt Garza (2008).

- -

Yankees 8, Twins 7 (10 innings)

Chase Headley had a bases-loaded groundout with nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the New York Yankees to an 8-7 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

- -

Angels 2, White Sox 1

C.J. Cron's one-out home run in the seventh inning snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Cron's tie-breaking homer and the home run by designated hitter Albert Pujols in the second inning were just enough to push the Angels over the top.

- -

Padres 5, Braves 3

Will Venable had two RBIs while Matt Kemp and Yonder Alonso both homered as Colin Rea won his second successive start as the San Diego Padres defeated the Atlanta Braves.

Rea (2-0) pitched 5-2/3 innings and was charged with two runs and five hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 34th save of the season.
