Meeker and Wibben take top honors in Junior Carcass Show

[August 20, 2015]  The Logan County Junior Carcass Show took place recently at the Atlanta Locker in Atlanta. The judge for this years competition was University of Illinois Meat Judge, Katelyn Hamlow.

This year there were 11 entries in the Pork Carcass judging.

The winner of the event this year was Meg Meeker of Emden. Her animal came in with a Hot Carcass Weight of 172 pounds and tested 60.8 percent Fat-Free Lean.

Other participants, in the order they placed were: Emma Ritterbush, Merritt Steffens, Andrew Hayes, Randy Grohmann, Brooke Harnacke, Reagan Tibbs, Randy Grohman (2nd entry), Ryan Fruge, Alec Wibben, and Alex Coers.

Meekr's trophy was sponsored by Tri-Pork Conrady Farms.

In the Beef Carcass judging Alex Wibben of New Holland took the top honor. His animal had a Hot Carcass Weight of 855 pounds and a Carcass Index of 54.0.

There were 13 entries in the show. With a weight restriction of 600 to 900 pounds Hot Carcass Weight, two animals weighed in at over 900 pounds and were dismissed from the competition.

Others who participated, in the order they finished were: Peyton Schwantz, James Byrd, Randy Grohmann, Porter Schwantz, Brode Miller, James Byrd, Landon Acorn, Paul Schwantz, Randy Grohman (second entry), Landon Acorn (second entry - dismissed from competition) and Eli Crane (dismissed from competition).

Wibben's trophy was presented by the Schwantz Family in memory of Carl Schwantz. Pictured with Alec receiving the trophy is Judge Katelyn Hamlow, and members of the Schwantz Family; Porter, Peyton, and Paul.
