On Saturday morning several folks came out to the Lincoln Community High School to test drive a brand new Dodge vehicle.

The occasion was a fundraiser for the LCHS Band put on by the Band Boosters in partnership with Lincoln Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. The dealership brought out a nice selection of vehicles including a Dodge Durango, minivans, and the high-powered Dodge Charger.

The boosters said they were hoping for a great turnout and had not been disappointed. By shortly after noon, with almost two hours remaining in the event, over 90 people had come out to drive a car. For each test drive taken, Dodge and the local dealership donated $20.

According to booster member Tony Shuff, the funds raised will help support several activities. The boosters typically offer financial assistance for the purchase of new band uniforms. The uniforms belong to the school and are distributed at the beginning of the school year to band students.

The students also have items they are required to purchase to participate, such as their shoes. Shuff said the boosters were available to help with that as well if the cost of the shoes is a challenge for a student.

The LCHS Marching Railers attend several field competitions each year. The Band Boosters help by providing snacks for the kids.

Finally, Shuff said the band trailer used to transport instruments and equipment to the field competitions is in need of a new paint job. The band boosters are working to raise money to pay for that work.
