[August 21, 2015]  SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Agriculture was excited to kick off a new attraction at this years’ Illinois State Fair. Ag Tours, presented by BRANDT. This tour gives fairgoers the opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of Illinois agriculture on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Fairgoer Megan Smith said, “The ag tour was a great way to expose my daughters to Illinois Agriculture. I grew up on a farm but we now live in the city and my children do not get exposed to AG as I did as a child. I am so glad that the State Fai is now providing a tour that teaches all about Agriculture in Illinois.”

This free, twice daily tour will depart from the Illinois Department of Agriculture tent and take fairgoers on a guided tram ride throughout the fairgrounds. Tour participants learn about the Illinois agriculture industry, including beef, dairy, horse racing, goats, rabbits, corn, soybeans and composting. Each Ag Tour participant receives a sticker and coupons, courtesy of the Illinois Beef Association and Illinois Pork Producers

Association, to be redeemed at the Commodities Pavilion, where the tour concludes.

The schedule for the tours is:

  • Friday, August 14 - 10:30am & 3:30pm
  • Saturday, August 15 & Sunday, August 16  - 10:30am & 2pm
  • Monday, August 17 through Friday, August 21 - 10:30am & 3:30pm
  • Saturday, August 22 - 10:30am & 2pm
