[August 27, 2015]  Aug 26 (The Sports Xchange) - Detroit Tigers right-hander Shane Greene will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Thursday.

Greene, 26, is expected to be ready for spring training. He will be cleared for physical activity within two weeks and be able to resume throwing after at least two months, Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand said.

Suspended relief pitcher Chris Perez retired earlier this week in a move that went under the radar for several days.

Perez, the former Cleveland Indians closer who is serving a 50-game suspension from Major League Baseball after testing positive for a drug of abuse, was with the Baltimore Orioles' organization at Triple-A Norfolk and the only mention of his retirement was on the International League transactions report.

The New York Yankees activated right-hander Michael Pineda from the 15-day disabled list.

Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury was held out of the starting lineup with a sore hip. Ellsbury was injured Tuesday trying to make a diving catch. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
