[December 01, 2015]  In a recent survey of area retailers, there were a host of reasons to spend your holiday dollars in Logan County. Right here in Logan County the offerings are varied in merchandise, selections and costs, make our merchants just as competitive as many out of town businesses.

In a quick stop at Logan Lanes, Shawn Taylor pointed out that they carry a wide selection of new bowling balls, shoes, equipment and towels.

Gift Certificates are also available for purchase to be used not only for bowling, but may be used for food and beverage as well.

And, if you have a golfer that can’t get on the course in the dead of winter, Logan Lanes has an indoor golf simulator.

A stone's throw from the bowling alley is the Elks Pro Shop. Nick Adcock suggested a new set of clubs, a golf bag, balls, and fashion accessories to keep the golfer in your life in great equipment and style. At Elks Pro too, they offer gift certificates in any denomination.

While visiting the west side of Lincoln, Pat Metzger and Katie Davis at the Furniture Gallery took a moment to explain that the Trisha Yearwood Furniture line would soon be coming to the Lincoln store. This home collection offers furniture, accessories, lamps and table tops in a warm, southern style with a classic twist to the discerning furniture buyer. Stop in and let the Furniture Gallery personnel help you with your furniture and decorating tips.

At Shew's Design, Rachel Shew suggested that family members may want to contribute to an account allowing the home buyer/owner to make improvements to their home renovation. This may be just the gift for those empty nester parents looking for an ideal gift for their adult child and their remodeling or custom project.

The fireplace surround was designed by her husband and co-owner, Mark Shew. The wood is re-purposed barn siding and the black stone was actually a slate chalk board reclaimed from the original Central School.

Members of Big R’s staff, Nancy Stoll and Beth Robbins, were quick to show their cold weather selection of Carhartt jackets, jeans and bib overalls, both available for men and women. They also carry a number of brands in addition to Carhartt.

For that handy person in your life, there is a wide selection of Milwaukee cordless power tools including drills and reciprocating saws. And don’t forget Big R for their selection of animal feed and supplies, be they big or small critters.

Shailo Doyle and Angie Ruff from Factory Connection pointed out Aztek clothing line of printed cardigans and skinny jeans that are hot for the gals this year.

And not to leave the men out, hoodies and a variety of half-zipper pullovers are among the many great apparel and accessory choices.

Ace Hardware’s team of J.R. Bailey and Tony Nemeth had a Green Egg Grill fired up, and it proves to be a really hot choice for the grill chef in the family. The Green Egg is a high tech, top-of-the-line ceramic grill designed not only for cooking, but also can be used for smoking a variety of meats.

Don’t forget Ace for your Christmas decorating supplies either. They are offering a Simple Shape Tree 'to help squelch the chatter' in putting up this Yule tradition. Lights, extension cords, ladders and more, top their list of necessities for this season.

A stop in P&M Communications brought forward recommendations from Bob Metz and Scott Billington. Flat screen T.V.s, and curved screens only began the list of all that they are offering. From 24 inch to 70 plus inch screens, to phones and a host of video equipment supplies, plenty of the most current technology and communication devices can be found under their roof as well. Check out P&M Communications for awesome sales.

Our four-legged friends/pets need to be remembered too. Kim Mathias and Matt Viner at Lincoln Animal Hospital were quick to point out their display of dog treats and dental chews.

For the cats in your life, they offered a calming collar. The cat collar is infused with pheromones giving the cat their own personal aroma therapy treatment. The smells actually help the cats relax and become less nervous, which may be a help as the activities in the home get more hectic than their usual routine.

Mary Todd Hallmark staff member, Samantha Unmisig, was quick to create a style show modeling a Vera Bradley Scarf and holding a pair of Simply Noel Boot Socks. Rounding out the outfit was a purse by Ginger Snap. In addition to accessories, candles and cards, a host of gift ideas abound throughout the store and there's something for every age.

Flossie & Delzena's is the stop for a delicious beverage and sandwich, or cup of soup. Peruse their gift shop area, and find beautiful hand made selections from local artisans. A wide variety of arrangements, paintings, and one of a kind craft items only begin the list. Heather Cosby is the owner and tour guide of this new on the Historic Courthouse Square in Lincoln establishment.

At McQuellon's Appliances, Mike Werschey, is offering a Crosley 20.5 cubic foot upright camouflaged deep freezer. While ideal for that hunter in your life, there is plenty of room for the baked ahead Christmas cookies and desserts. Just as a reminder, McQuellon's also offer dishwashers and many other appliances.

Prairie Years is undergoing a great change. Kathy Schmidt shared that they will be resetting the store with a focus more on children. Watch for their grand re-opening when books, puzzles, toys and games will be featured. Educational toys and teaching magic tricks serve a dual purpose in fun and science fundamentals. ABC’s, counting, and read along books, round out the selection for the younger tots.

Make it Sew owner Lori Elliott celebrates her first Christmas on the southwest corner of the Square. Pop-in and check out her fabrics and quilting supplies. She also offers sewing machine repairs and classes. Available to rent by the hour is a long arm quilting machine. This will make quick work of finishing off your heirloom quilt project.

A lot of people get something new for their home at Christmas. Jerry Johnson of Johnson Lumber located at 2035 2400th Street in Atlanta, suggests a Larson door or a Tempco window would make your home warmer this winter!

Abby Coers of Central Illinois Ag could be found at 200 Sharon Street in Atlanta. She shared 'Pillow Pets' are the rage this Christmas. These come in tractor and combine shapes and flatten for nap time.”

For the big kids on your gift giving list check out the many shop accessories that can be found at CIA, Atlanta, ranging from tools to salamander heaters.

If there is a collector on your shopping list, you need to visit with Dan Fulk at the 49ers Antiques, located at 700 N. Kickapoo Street on the alley. Be careful, he has over 8,000 items and you might get hooked. If it is the obscure gift you are looking for this season this is the place to start!

For that difficult to buy for person, or even as a Secret Santa gift, for an absolute right gift, you can't go wrong with Chamber Bucks available from the Chamber of Commerce. These certificates give the recipient a broader choice with a wide range of participating Logan County businesses and eateries.

The above businesses merely represent a small cross-section of the many places you can find the perfect gift right here at home. Local store personnel are waiting to help you find something for everyone on your list.

So, save yourself some time for relaxing, or plan a special time with your kids or friends, do something you'd rather be doing, and shop local this season.
