[December 02, 2015]  On December 2, 2015, the Honorable William Workman, Associate Judge, accepted a fully negotiated plea agreement which sentenced Deangelo Sparkman to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class 1 felony.

On February 27, 2015, Illinois State Police conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 55 of a vehicle driven by Deangelo Sparkman. The vehicle was searched and, contained with the center console, was a bag with a white powdery substance. The substance was tested by the Illinois State Police Forensic Laboratory which confirmed the substance to contain cocaine. The substance was weighed at 61.8 grams. The amount classified the offense as a class 1 felony.

The traffic stop of the vehicle was part of a larger investigation by the Lincoln Police Department and the Illinois State Police. The investigation obtained information of illegal drugs being brought to Lincoln from the Chicago area. “Although it may seem like a simple traffic stop, this conviction is the result of a lot investigatory work. Not only did the investigation result in a conviction but it kept a significant amount of cocaine from ever reaching our community,” stated Jonathan Wright, Logan County State’s Attorney.
