[December 03, 2015]  Dec 2 (The Sports Xchange) - The Cleveland Browns named Austin Davis as the starting quarterback and Johnny Manziel will serve as the backup for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, coach Mike Pettine announced Wednesday.

Quarterback Josh McCown will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his collarbone in a 33-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. Davis, in relief of McCown, made his Browns debut in Monday's game.

Entering in the fourth quarter with Cleveland trailing by a touchdown, Davis completed 7 of 10 passes for 77 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Travis Benjamin.

The start will be the 26-year-old Davis' first since he joined the Browns in September and the ninth of his NFL career. In eight starts and 10 overall appearances with the St. Louis Rams last season, Davis completed 180 of 284 passes for 2,001 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

NFL owners scheduled a special meeting for Jan. 12-13 in Houston to deal with the potential relocation of teams to Los Angeles.

The owners, meeting Wednesday in Irving, Texas, want more information from the three cities -- St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland -- hoping to keep teams from moving.

No clear consensus has emerged for either of the two stadium proposals for Los Angeles.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke may be willing to share his proposed stadium in the Los Angeles area. The Rams proposed a sort a partnership with the San Diego Chargers or Oakland Raiders in Inglewood, California, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is out of concussion protocol and was cleared to practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

Roethlisberger said Tuesday that he was out of the NFL's mandated concussion protocol, which requires clearance from an independent neurologist to return to on-field activities, but coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers denied that was the case just hours later.

On Wednesday, Roethlisberger was indeed back on the field with the Steelers, who host the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field on Sunday night.

The Atlanta Falcons, losers of four consecutive games and five of their past six, held a players-only meeting in an attempt to get back on the winning track.

The players held the meeting on Tuesday as the 6-5 Falcons prepare for Sunday's game against the 5-6 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It is unclear how long the meeting lasted, but first-year head coach Dan Quinn was informed before it took place, according to ESPN.

The Falcons started the season 5-0 before a 31-21 loss to the NFC South rival New Orleans Saints in Week 6 on Oct. 15.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is week to week with a bone bruise/sprain, said he will return "when I am 100 percent".

The Patriots and the Gronkowski family issued a joint statement Tuesday afternoon regarding the knee injury he suffered during the Patriots' first loss of the season on Sunday night in Denver.

Gronkowski was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss to the Broncos. The injury occurred with 2:49 remaining when Broncos defensive back Darian Stewart hit Gronkowski low on an incomplete pass. Gronkowski's leg whipped back as it made contact with Stewart.
