[December 04, 2015]  LINCOLN - This weekend Lincoln College will be the place to come for some excellent musical performances as well as a time to shop and a time to sit on Santa's lap! The community is invited and encouraged to come out to the college and take advantage of these wonderful holiday offerings.

Sesquicentennial: Music from the 1860’s

The College Music Department proudly presents “Sesquicentennial: Music from the 1860’s” in recognition of the founding of Lincoln College 150 years ago. Performances are Friday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 5 at 2 p.m. in the Johnston Center for Performing Arts on the Lincoln College campus. Admission is $2, and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Chorale, Chamber Ensemble, and soloists will perform music from the 1860’s including: “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “Down in the River to Pray”, and seasonal favorites like “Angels We Have Heard on High”.

The concert is directed by Laurie Lewis, Assistant Professor of Vocal Music.

Snacks with Santa

The Iota Chi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is hosting a “Snacks with Santa and Vendor Show”, in the Meyer-Evans Student Center on the Lincoln College campus Saturday, December 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Children ages 3 through 10 are invited to join Iota Chi Chapter members in making Christmas-themed crafts and create their own snack mix. Cost for each child participating is $1. All proceeds will be used to purchase books for children in need of Logan County receiving gifts from the S.A.N.T.A. program.

In addition to making crafts and having snacks, each child will have their picture taken with Santa. Chris and Michelle Hanson, owners of 74K Photography are longtime supporters of PTK’s charitable efforts and said, “We are excited to provide photographic memories to participants in ‘Snacks with Santa.’” Participants can download and print photos from 74K Photography’s website.

Vendor Sale

While the kids are busy making crafts and getting their pictures taken, parents can shop across the street at a vendor fair in the Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium. More than 30 vendors will be set up and ready to help shoppers with their holiday shopping needs. Vendors include Scentsy, Pink Zebra, Pampered Chef, Thirty-One, Paparazzi, DoTerra, Jamberry Nails, Young Living Essentials, Keep Collective, and more. Raffle tickets will be sold for vendor baskets.

Edward Bowlby, a sophomore at Lincoln College and the Iota Chi Chapter President said the chapter is happy to bring an exciting event to the community. “Our honor society wanted to create a fun event for the children of Lincoln, and help them make memories they can keep. We are very excited to also offer their parents a chance to shop kid-free at our vendor show” said Bowlby.
