[December 04, 2015]   LINCOLN - For the past two years, the Atlanta Quilting Corner has created cloth "Huggable Friends" for the Kids at Risk program at the Logan County Department of Public Health. This year the group was happy to be able to donate a total of 205 such handmade items to the health department.

The 'Friends' are given to the kids when they come to the health department for shots, therapy, treatments, etc. The 'Friends' are used to distract the kids from, what can be, an uncomfortable visit to the health department.

Included in this years 'Friends' donation, the Atlanta Needlework Guild added 49 winter hats and 69 scarves to be given to not only the Kids at Risk but anyone that is in need of the warmth of the hats or scarves.

Everyone is welcome to join the Atlanta Quilting Corner. The group meets every Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ar the Atlanta Manor, 201 N Howard St, Atlanta. They also meet each Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Atlanta Memorial Community House basement.

If you don't knit or quilt, and would still like to be a part of this charitable giving, both the Quilters Corner and the Needlework Guild welcome donations of yarns and fabrics. For the huggable friends, denim would be greatly appreciated.
