[December 18, 2015]  Dec 17 (The Sports Xchange) - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck returned to practice on Thursday but his availability for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans remains far from a sure thing.

Hasselbeck aggravated his injured ribs in last Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He told reporters that heavy breathing is "not easy."

Charlie Whitehurst will be the starter if Hasselbeck can't play. Andrew Luck remains sidelined with abdominal and kidney injuries.

The Colts also promoted cornerback Tay Glover-Wright to the 53-man roster. To make room for Glover-Wright, Indianapolis waived outside linebacker Daniel Adongo.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed right tackle Jah Reid to a three-year contract extension, the NFL Network reported.

Reid, 27, was signed by the Chiefs in early September, has started eight games and had the best season of his five-year career.

Reid was a third-round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2011 and only started seven games in four seasons with them before being waived in September.

The New York Giants signed defensive tackle Barry Cofield to his second stint with the club.

Cofield, 31, played for the Giants from 2006-10 and was a starter all five seasons. He left as a free agent and played the next four campaigns with the Washington Redskins before being sidelined by injury.

The New England Patriots claimed receiver Leonard Hankerson off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons and offensive lineman LaAdrian Waddle off waivers from the Detroit Lions, the team announced.

Hankerson, 26, had 26 receptions for 327 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with the Falcons this season. Waddle, 24, played eight games for the Lions this season and made six starts. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
