[February 04, 2015]  Feb 3 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Rangers placed veteran forward Ryan Malone on unconditional waivers Tuesday, possibly signaling the end of his NHL career.

Malone has spent most of this season with the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate in Hartford, scoring 10 points in 24 games. TSN reported that he might be ready to retire.

Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke could miss the remainder of the season with a lower-body injury, according to a report.

Cooke is definitely out for Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks and might need season-ending surgery, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.

The Wild on Tuesday recalled forward Jordan Schroeder from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League. Minnesota also announced it placed forward Justin Fontaine on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, retroactive to Jan. 29.

Schroeder, 24, has appeared in three games with Minnesota this season. In 59 games with Vancouver, he has 15 points.

Vic Howe, the younger brother of hockey legend Gordie Howe and a former player for the New York Rangers, died Saturday at age 85 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The cause of death is unknown.

The Dallas Stars on Tuesday recalled goaltender Jussi Rynnas from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. The club has also loaned goaltender Anders Lindback to Texas.

Rynnas, 27, has appeared in two games with Dallas this season, posting an 0-1-0 record with a .841 save percentage and a 4.57 goals against average. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
