Panthers beat out of by a desperation shot

[February 10, 2015]  LINCOLN - On Saturday to start the IESA 7A State Tournament the Chester-East Lincoln Panthers may have put together their best performance of the season with a 41-18 victory over Sidell Jamaica.

The Panthers were leading by only eight at halftime with a score of 20-12

In the third quarter, the Panthers took the court hot and outscored Jamaica 15-1 to put the game away.

Will Ewald and Isaac Dewberry each lead the scoring with 12 points each. Thomas Morris had six points, Jaden Pollice finished with five points, four points were gained from Noah Funk and Austin Prater finished with two points.

In the next game of the night, Panthers met up with undefeated Pontiac St. Mary.

At halftime, Pontiac led 18-16. In the third quarter, the Panthers turned the two-point deficit into a one-point lead with a score of 23-22

In the fourth quarter, it came down to one shot with the game tied at 32-32. Pontiac made a desperation shot at the buzzer and banked in a 21 feet shot to end the Panthers hopes of a state championship.

Will Ewald led the way in the second game with 12 points. Isaac Dewberry made seven points, Jaden Pollice had five and Noah Funk and Thomas Morris each four points for the Panthers.

CEL will play Cornerstone Christian Academy Thursday at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph, Il.
