CEL Panthers bring home 3rd in 7A Championships

[February 13, 2015]  LINCOLN - On the final night of the Chester-East Lincoln Seventh Grade Boys Basketball season, the Panthers were going to taking on a familiar foe.

Vying for Third Place in the 7A Championships, they would go head to head with Cornerstone Christian Academy of Bloomington. The Panthers had lost their second game of the season to Cornerstone, earlier in the season.

On this night, the Panthers showed their wildcat skills and quickly took the lead on their opponents. At the half-time, the score sat at 19-6 with the Panthers well ahead.

Cornerstone fought back in the second half, but were only able to gain five points in the third quarter and another eight in the fourth.

The Panthers with a 13-point lead at the half added another 6 points in the third and 5 points in the fourth bringing the final score to 30-19, Panthers.

For the Panthers, Isaac Dewberry all scoring with 14 points. Will Ewald added 11 points; Thomas Morris contributed four points, and Noah Funk rounded out the scoring with one point.

The win secured the Third Place position for the team. The Panthers end their season with a 19-3 record.

The team and their coach wish to thank the local Police and Fire Departments for the escort into town Thursday night. Also a big thank-you to everyone at Chester-EAst Lincoln for the "Welcome Home" party at the school
