Letter of support for Wanda Lee Rohlfs Ward 3 alderman candidate

Dear Editor:

On February 24, the voters in Ward 3 of the City of Lincoln will have the opportunity to select an alderman who will represent them for the next four years. My recommendation is to elect Wanda Lee Rohlfs to this important elected office. Mrs. Rohlfs is a proven leader who has demonstrated her commitment to sound fiscal practices and good government during her many years of public service.

The duties and responsibilities of our Aldermen have a significant impact on the lives of the residents and taxpayers of our city. Among these duties and responsibilities, two of the most important are: 1.) to determine how much money the city will spend each year; and 2.) to determine how it will be spent. Wanda Lee Rohlfs is a voice for controlling our spending in a manner that will result in growth for our city while preserving our assets, our heritage and our quality of life. She is a voice for using our tax dollars, and other revenues, efficiently to fulfill the city’s obligations to our residents, taxpayers, employees and retirees. She will carefully examine and question every ordinance, every contribution to an outside organization, every proposal for an external study or contract, every new project and every substantial expenditure. If she believes that these items are in the best interest of and have the support of the people of Lincoln and are worthy of taxpayer funding, she will vote for them. If not, she will oppose them.

[to top of second column in this letter]

She will be a voice in support of prioritizing our spending for the benefit of the people. Further, she will not be beholden to outside special interests who may seek to profit by influencing the city to enter into projects of questionable necessity and advisability or who attempt to influence the city to make other frivolous expenditures. She will oppose spending taxpayer money for endless studies and the hiring of consultants to perform tasks that are either unneeded or which, if needed, can be done internally. The residents of our city are entitled to this type of diligent and responsive representation.

Wanda Lee Rohlfs will very capably perform the duties of Ward 3 Alderman. Her common-sense approach to government is a proven way and its reinforcement is greatly needed now in our city government. The voters of Ward 3 can send a message of support for fiscally sound and responsive local government and against excessive and ill-advised taxation and spending by electing Wanda Lee Rohlfs as their Alderman on February 24.
