LCGHS sponsors essay contest for local youth

[February 27, 2015]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society is sponsoring an essay contest for all Logan County students in grades fifth through eighth.

The subject of the essay contest is “My favorite Quote by Abraham Lincoln. Why it is my favorite quote and how it relates to today?”

The essay shall be no more than 500 words in length (not counting a, an, and, the). It may be either typed or handwritten in ink on regular theme paper. No decorations, pictures or other graphics are to be used. A separate title page must include essay title, student’s name and home address, grade in school, and name of school.

The essays must reach Roseann Coers, 48 1800th St, New Holland IL 62671, by March 23, 2015. If the essay is given as a class assignment, all of the essays may be sent to her in the same envelope.

Announcement of the winner for each of the four grades will be made on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Lincoln Heritage Museum in Lincoln, at approximately 3:30 P.M. following the event, “A Nation Mourns, April 15, 1865.” The Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society is hosting this event in observance of the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, death and funeral.
