[January 06, 2015]  Jan 5 (The Sports Xchange) - Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams will sit out Monday's game against the Dallas Mavericks with a sore left side.

Williams was injured during Sunday's 88-84 loss at Miami and was listed as probable on the team's injury report. He tweaked his left oblique during the first half and toward the end of the game, Williams felt cramping near the oblique.

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, who missed his second straight game due to knee soreness, could sit out all week and miss the next four games.

Anthony, who is averaging 23.9 points per game, has tried to play through pain for much of the season.

There is no clear timetable for Anthony's return.

Milwaukee Bucks rookies Jabari Parker and Damien Inglis, were scheduled to have surgery Monday.

Parker will have surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament that he suffered on Dec. 15. Inglis, who was the 31st pick in the draft, was scheduled to have surgery on the right ankle he injured in a predraft workout.

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced that head coach Flip Saunders will miss Monday night's game against the Denver Nuggets because of illness.

Timberwolves assistant coach Sam Mitchell will serve as the acting head coach for the game.

Alina Claire Kupchak, daughter of Lakers General Manager Mitch and his wife, Claire, died Monday morning after a lengthy illness.
