[January 07, 2015]  Jan 6 (The Sports Xchange) - Head coach Randy Carlyle was fired on Tuesday by the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are fourth in the Atlantic Division at 21-16-3.

David Nonis, senior vice president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, said assistant coaches Peter Horachek and Steve Spott will handle coaching duties Wednesday when the Leafs return to the ice hosting the Washington Capitals.

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Radko Gudas will miss the next four months after having knee surgery, the team announced Tuesday.

Gudas had missed 10 games this year because of injuries but still led the Lightning in hits with 115, which put him fourth among all NHL defensemen, in 31 games.

The Columbus Blue Jackets activated right winger Cam Atkinson and center Mark Letestu from injured reserve and sent right winger Adam Cracknell and center Michael Chaput to Springfield of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Atkinson sat out three games after he was injured during a Dec. 27 game against the Boston Bruins. He has eight goals and six assists in 33 games this season. Letestu returns after missing 28 games with groin and abdominal injuries that required surgery on Dec. 2. In nine games this season, Letestu had three goals and two assists.

The Minnesota Wild recalled defenseman Justin Falk from Iowa of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Falk was with the Wild earlier this season, playing in nine games. In 21 games for Iowa, Falk has four points and 26 penalty minutes.

Forward David Pastrnak was recalled by the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins and was with the team for Tuesday's practice at TD Garden.

Pastrnak appeared in five games for Boston, including his NHL debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 24. He picked up his first NHL point and assist on Dec. 1 when he assisted on Brad Marchand's second period goal against the Anaheim Ducks.

The New York Rangers assigned forward Anthony Duclair to the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

Duclair, 19, has one goal and six assists along with a plus-four rating and four penalty minutes in 18 games for the Rangers this season. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
