[January 09, 2015]  Jan 8 (The Sports Xchange) - J.P. Parise, 73, died of lung cancer after battling the disease for a year.

The former NHL star, who settled in Minnesota after retiring in 1979, stopped receiving chemotherapy and entered hospice care recently.

The Detroit Red Wings called up winger Teemu Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League and placed Johan Franzen on injured reserve Thursday.

Franzen has a lower-body injury that kept him out of the Wednesday night's 3-2 road win over the Calgary Flames.

The Winnipeg Jets put defenseman Grant Clitsome on injured reserve, activated defenseman Zach Bogosian from IR and shipped defenseman Julien Brouillette to St. John's of the American Hockey League on Thursday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forward Troy Bodie from the American Hockey League and reassigned forward Greg McKegg.

Bodie, 29, has seven points (five goals, two assists) in 32 games with the Marlies this season. In 154 career NHL games, he has collected 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists).

Defenseman Jonathon Blum, goaltender John Curry and forward Jordan Schroeder were recalled by the Minnesota Wild, who placed goaltender Darcy Kuemper on injured reserve.

The Nashville Predators recalled forward Miikka Salomaki from Milwaukee (AHL) and placed forwards James Neal and Eric Nystrom on injured reserve.

Salomaki had 16 points (11 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 29 games for the Admirals this season. He has a plus-13 plus-minus rating, which is in the top 10 in the AHL.

Forward Markus Granlund and goaltender Joni Ortio were recalled from the AHL by the Calgary Flames, who placed center Josh Jooris and goalie Karri Ramo on injured reserve.
