[January 12, 2015]  Jan 11 (The Sports Xchange) - The Detroit Red Wings placed goaltender Jimmy Howard on injured reserve and recalled Tom McCollum from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League, the team announced Sunday.

Howard, who was named to the All-Star team, was taken from the ice in a stretcher on Saturday after suffering an apparent groin injury during the game against Washington. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined.

McCollum, 25, has appeared in 21 games for Grand Rapids during his sixth AHL season, posting a 10-8-3 record with a 2.33 goals-against average.

The Los Angeles Kings placed left winger Tanner Pearson on injured reserve with a fractured left fibula that he suffered in Saturday game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Pearson, 22, has 12 goals and four assists in 42 games this season.

Buffalo Sabres center Cody McCormick is out indefinitely while being treated for a blood clot in his leg.

"McCormick had a situation where he felt something, the medical staff looked at him and he went to the hospital yesterday," Sabres coach Ted Nolan told the Buffalo News after Sunday's practice.

"He has a blood clot in his calf muscle, so he's at the hospital now."

With top goaltender Steve Mason out for about two weeks with a lower-body injury suffered Saturday against the Boston Bruins, the Philadelphia Flyers recalled goaltender Rob Zepp from their AHL affiliate.

The Washington Capitals reassigned defenseman Steven Oleksy to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Oleksy, 28, registered 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) and 86 penalty minutes in 61 career games with the Capitals.
