[January 12, 2015]  MOUNT PULASKI - Mount Pulaski traveled to Effingham Saturday morning to take part in the St. Anthony Shootout. The Toppers easily handled the Clay City Wolves 79-48.

Beau Collier continued to play outstanding basketball for the Toppers and his 15 points led the team. Michael Lowery was close behind with 14 points and junior Brett Huff, who usually comes in early off the bench, contributed another solid effort with 12 points.

This was the Toppers sixth consecutive win and during this hot streak both Lowery and Beau Collier have stepped up their offensive game by averaging 12.5 ppg and 12.3 ppg respectively. The Toppers were cruising from the beginning of this one and jumped out to an early 17-8 first quarter lead thanks to a tough press that Clay City struggled to handle.

The Toppers continued to play well defensively in the second quarter and forced turnovers allowed the Toppers to go on an 8-0 run, leading 27-14. At the half the Toppers held a comfortable 36-22 lead.

Mount Pulaski showed no signs of slowing down offensively as the team put up 25 points in the third quarter. Beau Collier led the charge with eight third quarter points in the matter of a minute. In that New York minute Collier hit a three, stole the ball and showed off a nice spin around move and banked it in for two points and then on the Toppers next possession seconds later he decided to pop another three. This gave Mount Pulaski the 55-34 lead with just over a minute to play in the third quarter. Brett Huff and Lowery would go on to make three pointers of their own here to give the Toppers a 61-38 lead at the end of three.

Fourth quarter action even saw 6'4 junior Caleb Przykopanski getting in on the trey action. He was open for the two but decided to take a step back and nail the three instead, giving the Toppers a 71-39 lead. 6'5 freshman Peyton Taylor also decided to go a little long range in the fourth quarter and his ten foot jumper gave Mount Pulaski a 75-45 lead. Senior Aaron Durchholz also contributed four points off the bench in the final minutes of the 79-48 victory.

The Toppers record improves to 9-7 on the season.

Mount Pulaski's next game is at home Friday night against Midwest Central.
