[January 19, 2015]  Jan 18 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal agreed to terms on a six-year, $34.2-million contract extension Sunday.

Terms were not disclosed, but ESPN.com reported the extension has an average annual value of $5.7 million, a full no-trade clause in the first three years and a full-no movement clause.

Staal, 28, ranks second among all Rangers in games played (503), is tied for second among team defensemen in goals (29), and ranks third among Rangers defensemen in assists (90) and points (119) since he joined the team in 2007-08.

The New Jersey Devils plan to start goaltender Cory Schneider, who took a shot off the side of his head in Friday night's game, against the San Jose Sharks on Monday

Schneider, 28, was struck in his mask by left winger Matt Beleskey's shot in the first period of a 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks and sat the final two periods as a precaution.

The Minnesota Wild reassigned defenseman Jonathon Blum and forward Jordan Schroeder to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.
