01/20/2015 MLB Note - Texas Rangers Germen, Gonzalez

RHP Gonzalez Germen is headed to his third team in a month after the Rangers acquired him from the Yankees on Jan. 20 in a cash transaction. Germen, 27, was acquired by the Yankees from the Mets in a cash deal on Dec. 19. The Yankees designated him for assignment on Jan. 13 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired right-hander Chris Martin.

In 25 relief appearances with the Mets last season, Germen had no decisions, a 4.75 ERA and a 1.451 WHIP in 30 1/3 innings. Germen pitched 18 times in relief for Triple-A Las Vegas last year, going 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA and six saves.

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Elmore, Jake

SS Jake Elmore was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Jan. 20 to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly signed SS Jung-Ho Kang. Pittsburgh acquired Elmore off waivers from Cincinnati in November after the Reds outrighted him off their roster. Elmore, 27, went 2-for-11 in five games for Cincinnati last year. He hit .281/.376/.345 with no homers and 24 RBIs in 72 Triple-A games in 2014.

MLB Note - Houston Astros Corporan, Carlos

C Carlos Corporan was designated for assignment by the Astros on Jan. 20 to clear room on the 40-man roster for newly signed OF Colby Rasmus. Corporan, 31, and the team avoided arbitration Jan. 15 by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 deal. He hit .235/.302/.376 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 55 games for Houston last year.

MLB Note - Houston Astros Rasmus, Colby

OF Colby Rasmus signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Astros on Jan. 20. Rasmus could fill the void in center field left after the Astros traded Dexter Fowler, who started in center last season, to the Cubs a day earlier. Other possibilities for Houston's center field spot include George Springer and Jake Marisnick, so Rasmus also might see action at the outfield corners.

Rasmus, 28, batted .225/.287/.448 with 18 home runs and 40 RBIs last season for the Blue Jays. He started 80 games in center and also has played right and left during his major league career.

MLB Note - No MLB Team Free Agents Vogelsong, Ryan

RHP Ryan Vogelsong and the Astros were close to finalizing a contract agreement, multiple media outlets reported Jan. 20. Vogelsong, 37, was part World Series-winning rotations with the San Francisco Giants in 2012 and 2014. He went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts last year, then had no decisions and a 6.57 ERA in four postseason games (three starts). Over 10 major league seasons split between the Pirates and the Giants, Vogelsong has a career 49-57 record with a 4.42 ERA in 232 games (143 starts).
