[January 22, 2015]  SPRINGFIELD – The new year offers exciting new possibilities for volunteers at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum as the institution marks its 10th anniversary and the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s death.

Anyone interested in helping during a year packed with events and surprises can attend a volunteer orientation program Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Multi-Purpose Room. The two-hour session will acquaint people with the volunteer opportunities available and begin teaching attendees what they need to know about the library and museum.

Volunteers will be asked to attend three additional training sessions: Wednesday, February 4; Tuesday, February 10; and Wednesday, February 18. Each session starts at 5:30 p.m. and lasts about three hours. To register, contact Jeremy Carrell, director of volunteer services, at (217) 558-8984.

Volunteers help the presidential library by serving as informational guides, bus greeters and assistants in the museum’s children’s section. Volunteers also assist in the Oral History Department, Papers of Abraham Lincoln, the library reading room and more.
