[January 29, 2015]  Jan 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, the team announced.

Walker leads the Hornets with 18.8 points and 5.2 assists per game. He had played with the injury twice in the last two weeks.

The Hornets also are without forward Marvin Williams (broken nose and concussion) and center Bismack Biyombo (bruised right knee), who were injured Saturday in Charlotte's 76-71 victory over New York.

Brooklyn Nets forward Mirza Teletovic, who will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs, was released from a Los Angeles hospital Wednesday and the team expects a "full recovery."

Teletovic left Thursday night's 123-84 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers after experiencing shortness of breath.

Nets Dr. Michael Farber said in a statement: "Mirza was diagnosed with pulmonary embolus on Jan. 22 and started on the appropriate medications for this condition. ... We are pleased to say that he reports no symptoms at this time and that he will be discharged to return home today."

With Kendall Marshall out for the season with a torn ACL and center Larry Sanders suspended, the Milwaukee Bucks signed guard Jorge Gutierrez to a 10-day contract.

The Bucks also were expected to re-sign veteran forward Kenyon Martin for the rest of the season, ESPN.com reported.

Gutierrez, 26, averaged 15.2 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds for the Canton Charge of the NBA D-League.

The Utah Jazz signed forward Chris Johnson from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League to a 10-day contract.

The 6-foot-6, 201-pound Johnson appeared in 14 games (all starts) for the Vipers this season, averaging 20.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per contest.

The Indiana Pacers reassigned center Shayne Whittington to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA D-League.

The 6-foot-11 Whittington has played in 13 games for the Pacers this season, averaging 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins and Philadelphia 76ers point guard Michael Carter-Williams highlight the list of 20 players selected to play in the new-look Rising Stars Challenge during NBA All-Star weekend.

The league's annual showcase of premier young talent will debut a format that pits 10 first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year NBA players from around the world.

The game is set for Feb. 13 at Barclays Center in New York.

The NBA said Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes was fined $25,000 for inappropriate language aimed at a fan and not at Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver.

Barnes went on Twitter after the fine was announced and said he was directing his actions toward Sarver. But he also acknowledged that he interacted with fans near the Clippers' bench.
