Obituary

Atlanta -- Theodore "Ted" Carter Long, 76, of Atlanta, died at 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale, and is now singing and dancing with his Lord.

Visitation for Mr. Long will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January, 31, 2015 at the McLean United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the church with Revs. Becky Barrow, Steve Barrow, Don Ferrell, and Mike Barclay officiating.

He married Marcia Lane Ford on June 4, 1977, and gained four more children, who treated Ted as their father: Janet (Tim Clucas) Hooten, Steve (Sheila) Ford, Debora (Chuck) Van Hoorn and Carol Ford. Together Ted and Marcia were blessed with 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Additional blessings were Marcia's loving siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son.

Funeral Director

Ted was a graduate of Clinton High School and a lifelong resident of central Illinois. He was a softball pitcher, avid singer and musician, and proud member of the "Prune Juice League" golf team at Ironwood Golf Course. In earlier years he was a singer and lead guitarist in many bands, the last one being "Long Country." In later years, he and Marcia enjoyed a music ministry that led them to churches or senior citizen groups or to anyone who wanted to listen to some good southern gospel music.

He was a member of the McLean United Methodist Church where he had served as choir director, board trustee, and on multiple committees. Most recently, Ted served as church treasurer, a position he only reluctantly gave up as his cancer continued to spread.

The family thanks their family, friends, physicians, and mighty prayer warriors who covered Ted and Marcia with love, compassion, and prayer during this nine-month cancer battle.

Memorials may be made to McLean United Methodist Church or the Community Cancer Center in Normal.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
