[January 31, 2015]  Jan 31 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's National Hockey League games:

Penguins 2, Devils 1 (OT)

Simon Despres scored with 2:39 left in overtime, giving the Pittsburgh Penguins a come-from-behind 2-1 road victory over the New Jersey Devils.

It was just the second win in seven games for the Penguins (28-13-8), who snapped a five-game losing streak to the Devils in Newark.

Blackhawks 4, Ducks 1

Right winter Patrick Kane led the way for Chicago with two goals and an assist as the Blackhawks dominated the league-leading Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on the road.

Center Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith also scored, while left winger Patrick Sharp assisted on all four Chicago goals.

Blues 3, Hurricanes 2 (SO)

Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored the decisive goal in a shootout for the second night in a row as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2.

Shattenkirk was the only player to score in the shootout as the Blues escaped after squandering a two-goal lead, notching their fourth straight victory, while the Hurricanes fell short of matching a season-best, four-game winning streak.

Avalanche 3, Predators 0

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 23 shots for his fourth shutout of the season and the surging Colorado Avalanche beat the Nashville Predators 3-0.

After a poor start to the season, the Avalanche (21-18-11) have rallied to challenge for the last wild-card spot, only two points behind Calgary for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

Nashville (31-11-6) has lost four of five after a five-game winning streak.

Canucks 5, Sabres 2

Defenseman Yannick Weber and center Nick Bonino scored second-period power-play goals as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2.

Vancouver snapped a three-game home losing streak, while the Sabres lost their 14th consecutive games, three short of the NHL record.
