[July 02, 2015]  (Reuters) - BP has reached an agreement with U.S. authorities on the settlement of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico spill, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

No details on the terms of the agreement were available and a BP spokesman declined to comment on the report.

Local U.S. media also reported that attorneys general in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have called news conferences in their respective states at the same time Thursday regarding the spill.

BP faces a maximum fine of $13.7 billion under the Clean Water Act for its Gulf of Mexico oil spill, after a judge ruled that it was smaller than the U.S. government claimed.

The April 20, 2010 rig explosion and spill killed 11 workers and spewed oil for nearly three months on to the shorelines of several states.
