[July 09, 2015]  July 8 (The Sports Xchange) - The San Jose Sharks signed forward Timo Meier, the ninth overall pick in the 2015 draft, to a standard, entry-level contract Wednesday.

Signing and performance bonuses in the deal were not known, but the maximum allowable deal for players signing an entry-level contract is three years at $925,000 per season, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The 18-year-old Meier spent last season with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Meier registered 90 points (44 goals, 46 assists) in 61 regular-season games with Halifax last season.

"Timo is a dynamic forward who has outstanding finishing skills," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement.

"His big, pro frame allows him to be successful in all three zones, and his high hockey IQ has already become evident at our Prospects Development Camp. We look forward to watching his continued development."

The Washington Capitals signed forward Paul Carey to a one-year, two-way contract.
 


Carey, 26, has earned one assist and four penalty minutes in 22 games with the Colorado Avalanche. He made his NHL debut on March 12, 2014. He played in 12 of Colorado's final 17 games in 2013-14.

Carey appeared in 10 games with the Avalanche in 2014-15 and earned his first NHL point with an assist on Feb. 16. He was selected by Colorado in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Draft.

The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed forward Philippe Paradis to a one-year, two-way contract.

Paradis, 24, skated in 34 games with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League during the 2014-15 season, posting eight goals and 15 points to go along with 49 penalty minutes. He ranked fifth on Syracuse with a plus-10 rating. Paradis missed the final three months of the season due to injury.

Paradis was acquired by the Lightning from the Chicago Blackhawks on April 2, 2013.

The Detroit Red Wings signed left winger Eric Tangradi to a one-year contract.

Tangradi, 26, spent the 2014-15 season with the Montreal Canadiens' organization, logging 31 points (14 goals) and 56 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League. He recorded 17 penalty minutes in seven games with the Canadiens.

Tangradi was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round in 2007.

The Arizona Coyotes agreed to a multi-year contract with John Slaney to serve as an assistant coach.

Slaney, 43, will enter his fifth season with the Coyotes' organization in 2015-16. (Editing by Andrew Both)
