[July 28, 2015]  LINCOLN - Believe it or not, it is that time of the year, time for some football. Football season has begun for age-group play and that means lots of great evenings for families out at the fields practicing and playing games.

So, what were a couple hundred youth and adults doing on Monday night? They were out at Eaton Fields beginning the new season of Lincoln Youth Football League. Coach and League coordinator, Steve Farris said that the opening night is “usually one of most exciting days of the year.”

This year’s program involves approximately 150 to 170 kids from kindergarten through eighth, about 25 volunteer coaches, three or four booster girls, and Pam Laubenstein, who is Ferris “assistant for everything.”

All ages could be found practicing in groups performing drills on the spacious fields and side areas at Eaton Corporation north of Lincoln along the Parkway.

Prior to Monday’s official start you may have seen a few ambitious eighth-grader’s already out on the field doing conditioning drills.

Lincoln Youth Football League’s first games are Saturday and Sunday the weekend of Aug. 22 and 23.

It’s always a site to see when all the youth are out on the fields. Be sure to stop by some evening. And if you know a volunteer for the program, give him or her a pat on the back for supporting Lincoln and its youth in this fun, sporting, and wholesome activity.
