[June 04, 2015]  URBANA - Mary Ellen “Mimi” Smith, 63, of Urbana, formerly of Lincoln passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 1, 2015.

Visitation: Friday, June 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Christian Church

Service: 3 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the church

Mary Ellen “Mimi” Smith, 63, of Urbana, formerly of Lincoln passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 1, 2015.

Mary Ellen was Director of the Parent Programs at the University of Illinois, Champaign after spending most of her career in higher education in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. She was an artist, seamstress, singer and baker. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mary Ellen was born January 31, 1952 in Lincoln, the daughter of George W. and Betty Snyder Smith. Her parents preceded her in death.

Mary Ellen is survived by one sister: Terri (Dan) Carey of Madison, WI and their sons, Christopher and Matthew; one brother: Michael Smith of Ogden, UT and his son, Bryan (Charity) and their daughter Zora and several aunts and uncles in the Lincoln area: Pat Snyder, Buck (Lois) Snyder, Kenneth “Dutch” Snyder, and Clarence “Tony” (Mary) Snyder and many cousins. She was also preceded in death by many “Beloved Pets.”

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Memorial Services for Mary Ellen will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Lincoln Christian Church with Tim Searby officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorials in honor of Mary Ellen may be given to Washington-Monroe School for items (playground equipment/books/etc.) that will benefit the students.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln was entrusted with the services.
