[June 10, 2015]  June 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Tuesday's Major League baseball games:

Giants 5, Mets 0

Rookie right-hander Chris Heston, making just his 13th career start, became the latest Giants pitcher to join the no-hitter club when he struck out 11 New York Mets en route to a dominating victory.

The no-hitter is the fourth by the Giants in the past four seasons and their fifth since 2009.

Heston added two RBIs for San Francisco (33-26), the first of his career.

Royals 2, Twins 0

The Kansas City Royals scored once early and starter Chris Young combined with four relievers to one-hit the Minnesota Twins in a victory.

Young held the Twins without a hit until there was one out in the bottom of the seventh.

The win moved Kansas City (33-23) one game ahead of the Twins (33-25) for first place in the American League Central. The Royals will go for a three-game series sweep here on Wednesday.

Yankees 6, Nationals 1

Masahiro Tanaka outdueled Max Scherzer and the New York Yankees scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a victory over the Washington Nationals.

Tanaka (4-1) helped the Yankees (33-25) extend their winning streak to a season-high seven straight games by tossing seven innings.

Scherzer (6-5) lasted 6 2/3 innings in his loss for Washington (30-28).

Angels 8, Rays 2

Albert Pujols hit his 536th career home run, matching Mickey Mantle on baseball's career list and leading the Los Angeles Angels to a win over the Tampa Bay Rays, snapping a five-game losing streak.

The Angels (29-29) also got a double from Pujols and six-plus solid innings from starter Matt Shoemaker.

Tampa Bay (31-28) had won five of their last six games.

Tigers 6, Cubs 0

Anibal Sanchez tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings and the Detroit Tigers backed him with 13 hits in a victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Rajai Davis had two extra-base hits and scored twice for the Tigers (31-28), who have won three straight.

Shortstop Starlin Castro had two hits for Chicago (30-26).

Brewers 4, Pirates 1

Taylor Jungmann pitched one-run ball over seven innings to win his Major League debut and fellow rookie Jason Rogers had two hits, including a home run and two RBIs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jungmann (1-0) checked the Pirates (31-27) on just three hits while striking out five and walking one.

Blue Jays 4, Marlins 3

Designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Miami Marlins.

The one-out blast to center on the first pitch against right-hander A.J. Ramos (0-1) extended the Blue Jays' (30-30) winning streak to a season-best seven games.

Reds 11, Phillies 2

Joey Votto homered three times on three pitches, shortstop Zack Cozart hit a three-run bomb and third baseman Todd Frazier added a solo shot, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Votto now has 13 homers this season for Cincinnati (26-31).

The Phillies fell to 22-38.

Mariners 3, Indians 2

Robinson Cano had two doubles and an RBI and Roenis Elias pitched six strong innings as the Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians.

Cleveland catcher Yan Gomes belted two solo home runs to account for Cleveland's runs.

Orioles 1, Red Sox 0

Steve Pearce scored on a wild pitch from Boston right-hander Matt Barnes in the seventh inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a victory over the Red Sox.

The Orioles (27-30) and Red Sox (27-32) each missed on scoring chances throughout the first six innings before Baltimore finally broke through in the seventh.

Braves 6, Padres 5

Joey Terdoslavich broke a tie with a pinch-hit leadoff homer in the eighth inning, the first homer of his career, as the Braves came back from a five-run deficit against San Diego Padres.

Braves (28-30) closer Jason Grilli, who had blown the lead the night before thanks to his own throwing error, made the run stand up this time by pitching around a one-out double by first baseman Yonder Alonso in the ninth inning for his 16th save.

White Sox 4, Astros 2

Left-hander Carlos Rodon worked six scoreless innings while first baseman Jose Abreu clubbed his 10th homer of the season to help lift the Chicago White Sox to a victory over the Houston Astros.

The White Sox (27-30) captured their second straight victory and first series since taking two of three from the Astros in Houston in late May.

The loss was the sixth straight for the Astros (34-26), who still sit atop the American League West.

Rockies 4, Cardinals 3

Nolan Arenado homered and Jorge De La Rosa tossed seven strong innings as the Colorado Rockies rallied to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Rockies (27-30) second baseman DJ LeMahieu had three hits in the game, which began after a 1-hour, 7-minute rain delay.

Cardinals (38-21) starter Michael Wacha (8-2) allowed four runs on eight hits tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 1

Second baseman Howie Kendrick homered and drove in the go-ahead runs, guiding the Los Angeles Dodgers to a decision over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kendrick went 2-for-4 with all three RBIs as the Dodgers (34-25) beat the Diamondbacks for the sixth consecutive time and the 12th in 14 games.

Rangers 2, A's 1

Nick Martinez pitched six shutout innings, Mitch Moreland hit a solo home run, and the surging Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland A's.

The Rangers (31-27) won for the eighth time in their past 10 games and pulled to within two games of the first-place Houston Astros in the American League West.

Oakland (23-37) lost its fourth consecutive game as right-hander Sonny Gray's three-game winning streak ended. (Editing by Sudipto Ganguly)
