LINCOLN
- The Logan County Board’s Executive Committee continued discussion
on the potential purchase of the Atlanta golf course at its June
meeting. Prior to the meeting, the committee had requested a full
financial statement from the golf course in order to help better
determine the business’ financial state. The committee was given an
audit report from last year, and multiple committee members felt the
report fell short of what they asked for.

“The way I look at this, they’re in the hole by forty grand. Some
people just don’t look at the fact that if there are so many rounds
of golf played and they raised it by a dime, they could have broken
even,” said Bateman. “Some people are afraid to raise fees. I want
every single detail.” Bateman said it may very well be that another
set of eyes needs to look at their budget and help figure out little
ways to improve their situation.
“I’m not even going to consider the Atlanta golf course until I make
sure the citizens are making a wise investment on this thing,” said
Bateman. “I’m not going to stick tax-payer dollars out there for no
return or just to keep it afloat.”
Scott Schaffenacher asked if there was a way they could get more
detailed information on the course finances.
Blankenship said that the Atlanta City Council would have more
specific information on the golf course expenses.

Bateman also said he thinks the golf course should ask for zip codes from people
playing golf. Bateman said it will help to know whether or not the course is
drawing anyone in from outside the county, or if county citizens are the only
golfers.
Committee members present at the meeting were Jan Schumacher, Andy Anderson,
Kevin Bateman, Dave Blankenship, Scott Schaffenacher, and Dave Hepler.
