Public Transportation Update
Pam Meagher, the Program Compliance Oversight Monitor, or PCOM,
briefly addressed the committee on the Public Transportation
Program. Meagher said it is the time of year for the county to apply
for two public transportation grants, as they have for the last few
years. The county board will need to approve resolutions to apply
for the grants.
According to Meagher, one of the grants is for the operation of the
program, and the other is for vehicle purchases. Jan Schumacher
asked if vehicles are purchased every year. Meagher said the program
requests vehicles every year due to the lengthy wait time for
approval. “In all likelihood, we will need those vehicles. We’ve
been asking since the first year, and by the time we got them we
needed them,” said Meagher.
The committee approved unanimously of both resolutions to apply for
the public transportation grants.
On the topic of public transportation, Schumacher said they are
looking into renaming the service and seeking sponsors to help the
program grow. Schumacher said the new name would be STARS, or “Safe
Transportation Always Reliable Service.” Schumacher said they are
currently waiting on acquiring bids from designers for a new logo.

“One of the reasons why we’re doing all this marketing is we want to add more
ridership. Specifically, non-senior riders,” said Schumacher.
Committee members present at the meeting were Jan Schumacher, Andy Anderson,
Kevin Bateman, Dave Blankenship, Scott Schaffenacher and Dave Hepler.
