[June 20, 2015]   June 19 (The Sports Xchange) - The Toronto Maple Leafs obtained forward Zach Hyman and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2017 NHL draft from the Florida Panthers on Friday in exchange for forward Greg McKegg.

The 23-year-old Hyman played at Michigan last season and was named first-team All-American and a Hobey Baker finalist after leading the Big Ten with 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists).

A fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft, Hyman was selected as the Canadian Junior Hockey League Player of the Year in 2011 after producing 102 points in 43 games for Hamilton Red Wings.

McKegg played in three games for the Maple Leafs this past season and had no points. In 62 games for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, he had 22 goals, 15 assists and 39 penalty minutes last season.

John Spano Jr., whose fraudulent attempt to buy the New York Islanders in the 1990s fell through, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Ohio in another fraud case.

In May, Spano pleaded guilty to 16 counts of forgery while working as a salesman for an Ohio company that provides linens for health care providers. He collected thousands in commissions from fake accounts that he set up.

Twenty years ago, Spano pleaded guilty to forgery and theft charges after he posed as a rich Texas businessman while trying to buy the Islanders.

He presented the NHL with false documents showing him to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars and was able to get banks to loan him $80 million of the $165 million purchase price.

When Spano could produce a $5 million down payment required to purchase the Islanders, the FBI investigated and uncovered his scam. He was sentenced in 2000 to almost six years in prison and directed to pay $11.9 million in restitution.

Nelson, 46, split the 2014-15 season as head coach of the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL and the Edmonton Oilers.

He guided the Barons to a 15-6-2-2 record before taking over for Dallas Eakins as the interim head coach of the Oilers. In his first stint as an NHL head coach, Nelson directed Edmonton to a 17-25-9 record in 51 games.
