[June 30, 2015]  June 29 (The Sports Xchange) - The Philadelphia Phillies announced Monday that longtime baseball executive Andy MacPhail will take over for Pat Gillick as team president after this season.

MacPhail, 62, will assist Gillick, 77, for the rest of this season until he takes over the president's role.

Only a few more days of fan voting remain for the selection of the American League and National League starters in the All-Star Game, and the Kansas City Royals still dominate the AL squad.

Five Royals players --second baseman Omar Infante, shortstop Alcides Escobar, catcher Salvador Perez and outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon -- hold down starting spots in the latest voting update.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco had surgery to repair a left hip impingement. He won't begin full activity until January 1.

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer is likely to miss the entire series against the Houston Astros series after suffering a sprained left ring finger while sliding on Saturday.

Hosmer went 0-for-3 on Sunday against the Athletics before departing.
