[March 02, 2015]  LINCOLN - On Saturday, the Lincoln College Men's Volleyball team took second place at the 16 team MWPVC Crossover tournament played at SIU-Edwardsville.

The Lynx tool first in their pool with wins over SIU-Carbondale (24-14, 21-25, 15-10) and Lewis University (25-17, 25-20). In the first round of bracket play, LC took down the University of Missouri 25-17, 25-19 then defeated nationally ranked St. Louis University(#10) 25-21, 25-21. This put LC into the championship match against Missouri Science & Technology University. In set one, neither team was able to build more than a three point advantage. LC had the first set point opportunity with a slim 24-23 lead, but S&T was able to score on a ball that Lincoln blocked just out of bounds. Two quick points gave Missouri a 26-24 set one win. In set two, the Lynx came out strong, scoring the first four points and holding on to the lead the whole way for a 25-21 win. This forced a deciding set to 15 for the match. In that set, the two teams battled to a 12-12 tie, but S&T would score the last three points on two blocks and a kill to take the set 15-12. Lincoln's record on the season has now improved to 14-9.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: I could not have been more proud of the way our team performed at this tournament. Regularly playing against varsity NAIA and NCAA teams all season has turned us into a very tough club team to beat. Our defense was solid all day, especially our block, and offensively we were quick and versitile. There are some strong, and experienced teams from much larger universities in the MWPVC, but our players did not back down. The wins over Mizzou and SLU were exciting steps forward for our young program and the championship match against Missouri S&T was super intense. They have one of the biggest teams we have seen this year, but we hung right with them and gave ourselves chances to win the match. We are looking forward to getting another shot against them at the Conference Championship tournament at the end of March.

Lincoln will travel to play Quincy University on Wednesday evening.
