the 2014 annual report for the seven-affiliate health system, which
includes patient testimonials and significant achievements realized
on behalf of the patients and communities served by the health
system. The annual report is for fiscal year 2014, which ended Sept.
30, 2014.
“The achievements and patient stories highlighted in this year’s
report showcase how strong our organization remains by working
together, doing what’s right for our patients and staying focused on
our mission, vision, values and goals,” said Edgar J. Curtis,
president and chief executive officer for Memorial Health System.
“None of this success would be possible without our dedicated
employees and volunteers, our skilled physician partners and the
support of the communities in which Memorial’s seven affiliates call
home.”
Highlights of the annual report include:

A series of patient profiles featuring community
members throughout central Illinois.

An update of Memorial Medical Center’s expansion
project, Advancing Care By Design, which includes a three-floor
patient care tower that will add 114 private patient rooms, six
new operating rooms and expansion for surgical services, a
renovated main entrance and lobby and the new Memorial Center
for Learning and Innovation.

Details about the nonprofit health system’s
Community Benefit program. In 2014, Memorial provided more
than $140.8 million in unreimbursed services. Community
benefits totaled nearly $88.3 million, including $14.4
million in charity care. The unpaid costs for patients
insured by Medicaid totaled $37 million.
The health system’s seven affiliates are Memorial Medical Center of
Springfield, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital of Lincoln, Passavant
Area Hospital of Jacksonville, Taylorville Memorial Hospital,
Memorial Home Services, Memorial Physician Services and Mental
Health Centers of Central Illinois.
