Trojans named champs at WLB Round Robin

[March 09, 2015]  LINCOLN - On Saturday, nine games were held to conclude the week-long sixth grade boys Round Robin Tournament at West Lincoln-Broadwell. In the end, the last three scheduled games determined 5th and 3rd place as well as crowned an undefeated champion.

The two Panther teams, Delavan and Chester-East Lincoln, competed for the fifth place finish. Delavan came out 49-28 in a battle of the Panthers to finish in 5th place.

Gavin Kipfer led Delavan with 15 points while both Drake Dowell and Sam DeJesus scored ten each.

Tanner Stramp led CEL with 15 points in the loss.

The 3rd place game featured the host WLB Wolverines playing the Carroll Catholic/ New-Holland Middletown/ Zion Lutheran Crusaders. Dylan Singelton led all scorers with 19 in a 27-20 win for the Crusaders. Lucas Konczyk led WLB with 11 points in the loss.

In the tournament finale, the unbeaten Trojans from Lincoln Junior High faced the unbeaten Bulldogs of Greenview. At halftime, it was all tied at 21-21, and shaping up to go down to the wire.


The Trojans came out of the locker room and took control of the game with a 22-6 3rd quarter advantage. Although they did not hit another field goal, they finished the Bulldogs off at the free throw line going 9-11 in the fourth quarter.

Keegan Ferguson led all scorers with 24 in the victory while Landon Hullinger added 12. Also scoring for LJHS was, Seth Tungate (6), Adam Grunder (5), Steven Gleason (4), and Logan McDonald (2).

Alex Janssen led the Bulldogs with 23 points while Brady Westerfeld scored 12 and Trevor Booth added 3.

After the championship had been awarded, the All-Tournament Team was announced based on coaches' selections.



The team consisted of Dylan Singelton (Carroll), Keegan Ferguson (LJHS), Brady Westerfeld (Greenview), Alex Janssen (Greenview) and Patrick McCraith (WLB) were selected by the 6 participating coaches.

Five additional players were selected as honorable mention. They were Lucas Konczyk (WLB), Gavin Kipfer (Delavan), Trent Koehler (Carroll), Steven Gleason (LJHS), and Landon Hullinger (LJHS).
